This fish is distributed in the Western Pacific, including the coasts of Japan, South Korea, China, Southeast Asia and other waters. The body of this fish is extended, the back is slightly raised, the mouth is bit, and the lower jaw is slightly protruding from the upper jaw. Both the upper and lower jaws and plough bones have fluff-like tooth bands. The posterior edge of the anterior gill cover bone is serrated, the body is covered with small comb scales, the back of the body is blue-gray, and the sides and abdomen are silver-white. There are irregular dark spots on the upper part of the body, and the edges of the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins are gray-black, with a body length of up to 102 cm. This fish inhabits the intersection of freshwater and seawater, and will go up to freshwater areas for food. It has a fierce temperament and is carnivorous. It feeds on fish and crustaceans. It is an important edible fish and farmed fish, which can be steamed, braised, and boiled in soup.
